About Us
It takes a village to raise a child.
Summerville Parent Nursery School (SPNS) is a nonprofit, parent co-operative school for children ages 18 months to five years.
Our preschool has been running for more than fifty years and is an integral part of the community. Our developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum focuses on child-led exploration, along with practical skills development. We spend as much time as we can outdoors on our campus, which includes art and sensory stations, a play structure, bike path, and garden. Activities and play spaces in the classroom and outdoors are set up for student discovery, reflecting our child-centered approach.
Being in our co-op means:
~ participating in our children's learning and play, including circle time, craft/art projects, and outdoor activities
~ being willing to jump in and take on what needs to be done - as small as helping a child wash their hands or as big as volunteering to be on our all-parent board
~ learning how to support your child's early learning and social/emotional development as a parent and educator, including following child-led exploration & play principles
~ joining Friday field trips, extra events and party days!
~ improving and maintaining our beloved school premises
~ supporting our teacher
~ participating in our fun fundraising events
~ representing SPNS with the community at-large with service projects, family-centered events, etc.
~ building friendships (kids and grown-ups!)
~ embracing diversity and tolerance in an environment where all are welcome
We are a family friendly (and sibling/baby friendly!) place that is centered around our children. Because after all, they are why we do all of this.
They are the future; let’s make it bright and beautiful together.
We are a little school, with a big heart!
